Case Study
University of Colorado, Boulder, 18th Street Improvements
F&D was awarded a contract by CU Boulder to re-design and improve several blocks of 18th Street running right through the heart of the Boulder Campus. The street is heavily used by buses, delivery vehicles, vehicles, bike riders and pedestrians. It was failing in many places due to badly deteriorated road base, poor storm water systems, poor multi-modal connectivity and was not ADA compliant which presented numerous hazards for pedestrians. The F&D team provided full engineering and design services to improve the street. Work included street, curbs, sidewalks, pedestrian crossings, landscaping, re-routing major utilities, stormwater improvements, new vehicle control acess systems and a pavement design that would hold up to the rigors of heavy traffic on one of the busiest streets on the campus.
