Case Study

The headquarters for the Rio Blanco Fire Protection District is located on a prominent corner site in Meeker, Colorado that enhances the identity of this important facility and its connection to the community. Responding to the architectural design of the surrounding community, the durable and low maintenance exterior materials consist of articulated block, aluminum awnings, and storefront window and door systems.

The building responds to the surrounding historic context by reinterpreting Meeker’s unique historic building traditions. The 4,500 square foot facility includes administrative offices, support spaces, and multi-use spaces that provide opportunities for community meetings and firefighter education. A light-filled, double height lobby/public education space allows opportunities to display the volunteer firefighter’s history which includes an antique fire engine thus connecting Meeker Fire & Rescue to the community it serves.
