Case Study
Mt. Washburn Historic Fire Watch Tower, Yellowstone National Park
F&D International was retained by the National Park Service in Yellowstone National Park to provide engineering and architectural consulting to develop conceptual drawings, specifications and plans for the restoration of this historic fire watch tower.
The tower which sits at the highest point in Yellowstone Park, was constructed in 1908 and over the years communication equipment had been attached to the side of the structure causing deterioration. The F&D team was tasked with the job of developing the design of a steel structure that could be constructed alongside the historic building which would allow the communication equipment to be moved from the side of the tower to prevent further damage, preserve the historical elements and improve the visitor experience.
