Case Study

Lake Agnes, Historic Cabin, Walden, Colorado

Located high in the North Park Valley near the town of Rand, Colorado, the cabin was built by John Zimmerman in about 1882, originally from Switzerland, he settled in the Cameron Pass area and established the Elkhorn mine on Cameron Pass. He built the cabin and renamed the lake after his daughter Agnes with the intent of starting a boys camp there. But an unfortunate accident altered his plans after a little boy drowned in the lake and the camp never re-opened. From 1920 until 2000, the cabin has been maintained as a rangers cabin.

The F&D team was retained by the State Park to provide a Historic Structure Assessment (HSA) to secure a grant for much needed restoration work to preserve this treasured piece of history.
